A GREAT SUCCESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Feedback on 18th Fotografia Kolekcjonerska
The sales at the 18th Fotografia Kolekcjonerska auction totalled nearly PLN 240,000, which is a great success of Polish photography.
Our Tuesday auction once again proved that works of Polish masters of photography are much sought after and eagerly purchased by collectors. We sold 50% of the lots during the evening, and further items after the auction.
The photographs which fetched the highest prices include a set of 6 prints from the „Consumer Art” series by Natalia LL, which sold for PLN 48,000, or nearly PLN 57,000 inclusive of the buyer's premium.
Other highest priced lots were a photograph from the „Masochistic Little Pictures” series by Józef Robakowski, which sold for PLN 19,000 (PLN 22,500 with the buyer’s premium), the „Minimal Fetish” by Maurycy Gomulicki, which went for PLN 9000 (PLN 10,500), and „Portrait of a Girl” by Edward Hartwig, fetching PLN 8000 (nearly PLN 9500). Once again, photographs by Zofia Rydet proved highly appreciable by collectors, with her „Chochołów” works from the „Sociological Record” cycle sold for PLN 7000 (8000 with the buyer’s premium). Other highly priced works include „Immoral Masks” by Marek Piasecki, which sold for 6500 (PLN 7700), „A Step” by Mikołaj Smoczyński, and the dummy of the „Silesia” photographic album by Halina Holas-Idziak and Leonard Idziak, which went for PLN 6000 each (over PLN 7000 with the premium).
The pictures which fetched the highest hammer price relative to the starting price included two photographs by Andrzej Lachowicz from the „Energy of the Fall” series, with the price rising from PLN 2000 to PLN 4300 (more than PLN 5000 with the buyer’s premium). Other works include the „Wedding Dress” by Joanna Zemanek, the starting price of which was PLN 1500 and which sold for PLN 3700 (nearly PLN 4400 with the buyer’s premium).
Collectors also showed appreciation for photographs of such masters as Zygmunt Rytka, Bronisław Schlabs, Wacław Nowak, and Witold Romer, as well as works produced by present-day artists: Bownik, Rafał Milach, and Andrzej Kramarz.

"THINGS. The Object in Polish Photography"
18th edition of Fotografia Kolekcjonerska
exhibitions & auction of Polish masters of photography
Krakow – Warszawa
Auction: 13.06.2017 (Tuesday), 19:00 hours
Venue: MYSIA 3, ul. Mysia 3, 3rd floor, Warsaw
Organisers: FotografiaKolekcjonerska.pl in collaboration with Artinfo.pl
Partners: Fundacja Sztuk Wizualnych, Krakow Photomonth Festival, Starmach Gallery, MYSIA 3, Adam Mickiewicz Institute
The 18th edition of Fotografia Kolekcjonerska under the title „THINGS. The Object in Polish Photography” was our fourth thematic event, giving our viewers an opportunity to admire works of the most distinguished Polish photographers displaying a variety of approaches to the theme – from documentary photography to conceptual ideas and photographic objects that take the traditionally flat photography into a three-dimensional world, affording it a whole new meaning.
Fotografia Kolekcjonerska is the only regular auctioning event in Poland dedicated exclusively to photography. Since its first edition in 2007, we have offered collectors a diversity of works by leading Polish artists. As in previous years, the items shown at the pre-auction exhibition are rare works made with a variety of techniques. The event is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue with the artists’ bios, photo descriptions and reproductions of all the works.
