A GREAT SUCCESS OF PHOTOGRAPHY
Feedback on 14th Fotografia Kolekcjonerska
We are pleased to inform you that the total sales at the 14th Fotografia Kolekcjonerska auction, which was held on 30 May 2015, amounted to over PLN 250,000. The auction, organised by the FotografiaKolekcjonerska.pl and Artinfo.pl websites, was held during the Fotofestiwal in Łódź.
Once again, it proved that the works of the masters of Polish photography enjoy a high esteem and are eagerly bought by collectors. We sold 64% of the items.
As expected, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy) was the artist whose work went for the highest price. His Landscape was bought for PLN 34,000, which means that including the 15% buyer's premium the collector will pay PLN 39,100.
Zofia Rydet was another artist whose works led to heated bidding. Her Hope from the World of Feelings and Imagination series went for PLN 7,800. Including the buyer's premium, the total price is nearly PLN 9000, i.e. four times more than the starting price. Another of her works, The Endlessness of Long Roads, sold almost equally high – for PLN 7,600.
Kacper Kowalski's Cosmos – composition No. 8 /Flood from the Sky – Sandomierz 2010 collection/ from the Side Effects series caused equally strong emotions. Its hammer price of PLN 32,000 (PLN 36,800 with the buyer's premium) was three higher than the starting price.
During the auction, another work was sold for more than PLN 10,000. The unique collage by Jan Dziaczkowski from the Mountains for Warsaw series went for PLN 16,000, with the starting price of PLN 9,000.
Other top-selling works include: Zdzisław Beksiński's Province (PLN 8000), Benedykt Jerzy Dorys's Kazimierz nad Wisłą (PLN 4200), Henryk Poddębski's Morskie Oko (PLN 4800), Zygmunt Rytka's Continual Infinity (PLN 4600).
Among the younger generation artists, once again, Ilona Szwarc sparked great emotions. The bidding for her Tayln, Canadian, Texas from the Rodeo Girls ended with PLN 8500. Such artists as Chris Niedenthal, Rafał Milach, Andrzej Kramarz and Paweł Żak proved their position on the market. What is also noteworthy is the success of two Fotografia Kolekcjonerska débutantes – finalists of the Fotofestiwal Grand Prix competition: Anna Grzelewska and Mateusz Sarełło.
The excellent result of the auction proves that photography enjoys a growing interest among collectors. This concerns both the works by classics, and by younger generation artists. The upward movement in prices proves that the Polish market for photography is evolving and growing ever stronger.
